Full Moon Yoga Practices

Hello :-)

Well the last few days i have been noticing a difference in both my physical energy and mental energy.
With this in mind i have looked at what i have changed diet wise, well I've been consuming more dairy and i have not had lemons for three days exactly as i ran out of them. So is this the reason for my change in behaviour? Well i guess it could be, but i am also figuring as a women my menstrual cycle could also have something to do with it? As well as all these factors i have been thinking about lunar effects.

It is almost a full moon....Does this have anything to do with my changes in my behaviours? It is known that the moon effects large areas of waters like the ocean. The body of a human contains a great deal of water so does it have an effect on our behaviour? It can also be suggested that positive irons increase during a full moon and this could also effect behaviour.

"The full moon occurs when it is directly opposite the sun, the earth at their centre. On the day of the full moon both the sun and moon are exercise gravitational forces towards the earth, and this is what causes the pulls of the tides, waves and oceans. As water makes up such a large portion of our being, we are very affected, much like these forces of nature we have grown to fear." http://www.lexiyoga.com/full-moon-yoga

There is very limited evidence supporting this claim of the moon and the human behaviour but it is something to consider. In India the moon is refer-ed to as the Guru Purnima, the moon and the Guru are said to be full of wisdom. It is also stated that the moon is a representation of the mind, emotions, creativity, intuition and also it is refer-ed to as the feminine power. It is said that a full moon is a time that brings closure to things that no longer service us, it allows us to honour and nourish ourselves to allow this letting go to take place in our life, body and mind. This is a great idea to use as a yoga theme for a class may i add.

Many yoga teachers do there classes around the lunar cycle differently. It is especially common in Ashtanga Yoga to rest on full moon and new moon days. The main reason stated for the rest days is because we can become stubborn on these certain days more than others and are more susceptible to injury. Hence the change in a yoga session you attending that has a teacher that follows the lunar cycle.

It is also suggested that there is an increase in low moods/depression and this has been especially noted in people with schizophrenia.

"one study found a statistically significant correlation between lunar phase and hospital admissions due to gastrointestinal bleeding, but researchers acknowledged that the wide variation in the number of admissions throughout the lunar cycle limited the interpretation of the results.[18] Two other studies found evidence that those with mental disorders generally exhibit periods of increased violent or aggressive episodes during the full moon,[19][20] but a more recent study found no such correlation.[21] An analysis of mental-health data found a significant effect of moon phase, but only on schizophrenic patients.["22] " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_effect

These superstitions go back for centuries and i think the best way to find out is start to observe yourself for the truth about the moon and its effects.

With this in mind my yoga class on Sunday (full moon) will be around the aspect of body and water. I will warm up with sun salutes to allow the flow to move the and warm the body. I will then transition to the floor to open the heart to allow it to open out to receive and nourish as well as some hip openers to get rid of any tension that has been built up. At the same time as all of this i will focus on the breath and help to bring balance to the breath. I am going to start back on my lemons and hot water to see if i have any huge changes....I have just been out and bought lots of lemons for tomorrow and the following day. :-)

Namaste Yogis and readers x
